Pay Tax Bill
Tax payments can be made in the Town Clerk’s Office. Payment arrangements for overdue taxes can be made by contacting the Finance Office at (207) 222-1610.
Beginning November 10, 2014, Residents can make credit/debit card parments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Property taxes can be paid with a Visa, MasterCard, Discovery, or American Express card. Payments are processed through Maine PayPort Online, a third party service working in partnership with the Town of Gorham. By using this third party service, your credit card information is processed through a secure site. For any questions regarding this service, please call (207) 222-1611. Maine PayPort will assess a 2.5% service fee for each transaction; however, all transactions that are $40 or less will only be charged a $1.00 fee.
PLEASE NOTE: Overdue taxes may NOT be paid using this service and must be paid at the Town Office.
To pay your bill, you will need the account number located on your tax bill and a valid credit card. If you are unsure of your account number, or the amount owed, you can call the Town Clerk's Office at (207) 222-1670.

If you choose to print a copy of your bill, please remember to check off the “print current page” option or you will end up printing more than you bargained for!

Sold Property & Name on Tax Bill
According to Maine's Taxation Law, the Assessor is legally required to issue the annual tax bill to the owner of record as of April 1st. If you sold your property on June 1st, the tax bill due in November and the second payment due the following May, must be in your name.
- April 1, 2016, you owned the property.
- June, 2016, you sold the property.
- August, 2016 the annual tax bill is “committed”.
- November, 2016 the first half payment is due.
- May, 2017 the second half payment is due.
Your name will appear on all the bills until the new bill is issued for November of 2017.
IMPORTANT: Please discuss the property tax bill at the closing - who is responsible for payment of the taxes and who you will forward the bill to when you receive it. Neither the Assessor nor Tax Collector is responsible for the proration of taxes between buyer and seller.

The Maine Residents Property Tax and Rent Refund “Circuitbreaker” Program has been repealed as part of the enacted state budget for claims beginning on or after August 1, 2013. The Circuitbreaker Program has been replaced by a refundable Property Tax Fairness Credit that can be claimed on the Maine Individual Income Tax Form. he new credit will be available beginning in January, 2014 on the Maine Individual Income Tax Form 1040ME. A worksheet will be included with Form 1040ME to calculate the amount of the credit.
