What are silver bullet units? What is acceptable to drop off?

Silver BulletsThe silver bullet units are large, silver or mural-painted, metal recycling bins located at Public Works.

These are for recyclable materials only – Residents may dispose of cardboard, plastic containers #1-#7 (except Styrofoam), glass, tin cans, aluminum foil, and paper in these units. Please check the signs posted at the silver bullets, or check the Recycling Guidelines for a more detailed list.

Non-recyclables

All of the items listed above, and many more, have previously been left behind at the silver bullet recycling units. These items, and anything not listed as recyclable in the guidelines above, are considered contamination to the recycling. If the contamination is above a certain percentage, then all of the materials in a given bin are treated as trash. This creates more cost for disposal and negates everyone working hard to recycle.

If you are unsure if something is recyclable, please call Public Works at (207) 892-9062, or access Ecomaine's Recyclopedia tool on the Gorham Public Works Trash and Recycling page HERE.

Continued abuse of this recycling center by a minority of residents could result in elimination of this important service. We encourage residents to please recycle right and responsibly. No items should be left outside these units, recyclable or not.

Note: Silver bullet units are monitored by cameras for the purpose of identifying illegal dumping.
