Public Works Director

The Town of Gorham is a thriving community and one of the fastest growing towns in Maine with a population of approximately 18,000.  With a flourishing urban village, steady industrial and commercial expansion, plentiful recreation opportunities, a college campus, and Greater Portland METRO public transit service, the Town of Gorham is a vibrant place to live, work, and do business.

We are currently seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Public Works Director. This position reports directly to the Town Manager and is responsible for oversight and direction of all phases of municipal public works operations: budget preparation; capital improvements planning and projects; stormwater infrastructure maintenance and management, including the Town’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program; vehicle and equipment maintenance; municipal buildings, grounds, and road maintenance; snow removal and ice control; cemeteries; and curbside trash collection and recycling.  A complete job description is available HERE.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, public administration, or closely related field required. A minimum of five years’ of public works management experience in addition to considerable administrative and operational public works experience required. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:  The Town of Gorham offers a comprehensive package of pay, benefits, and paid time off to eligible employees, including a choice between two excellent health insurance plans with a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), $1,500 annual medical buyout for individuals declining health coverage, a 457(b) deferred compensation retirement plan with a 7.5% employer match, earned vacation and sick time, 12 paid holidays per year, and paid maternity/paternity leave. Employees also have access to dental, vision, medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, short-term disability, IRAs, and tuition reimbursement. Salary range for Grade 8 positions is $77,126 – $113,298; however, salary offered to the successful candidate will depend on experience, qualifications, and budget.
