Department Duties

The Code Division is the source for various permits that, per Code, may be issued by the Code Enforcement Officer.

The Code Enforcement Officer provides interpretation of the Gorham Land Use and Development Code, the 2015 IRC, 2015 IBC, 2015 IEBC, 2009 IECC, the State of Maine Life Safety Code NFPA101 (otherwise known as MUBEC), and reviews applications for appeals to be heard by the Gorham Board of Appeals.

Any new structure, including decks, sheds, pools and alterations to existing structures will require building permits and possibly electrical and/or plumbing permits. The Code Division staff makes every effort to provide information with clarity and professional assistance to the public.
