GGETV Channel 3 FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS PUBLIC ACCESS TELEVISION?

The Town of Gorham has negotiated a cable franchise agreement with a Cable Television Provider. In Gorham’s case, that is Time Warner Cable. Federal law allows the town to require the cable provider to offer a “public, educational, or government (PEG) access channel (or channels) on the local channel lineup. Access channels are intended for unrestricted use by citizens, schools, and municipalities. Gorham has 2 PEG channels. The community has channel 2,  GOCAT TV2.  The School Department and Town has channel 3,  GGETV.  Access channels focus on “ local origination programming”. What’s happening in our neighborhoods, our schools, and our town office? GOCAT TV2 and GGETV TV3 are only broadcast to residents in Gorham who have cable access. Neighboring towns don’t see our programming. Most use the same cable channel locations such as 2 or 3 to broadcast their own access information.

WHAT DO YOU DO AT GGETV?

WI-FI Zones are now available through Gorham Community Access Television (GOCAT.)

We provide an Electronic Bulletin Board that guarantees a 24-hour presence on the channel. It plays announcements from town and school related departments.

We broadcast many municipal meetings live from the Council Chambers at the Municipal Building and occasionally other locations.Regularly broadcast meetings are the Town Council, Planning Board, Appeals Board, and School Committee. We record and play back these meetings as well.  LIVE Meetings take priority over the replay schedule.  We rotate the replay of meetings between regular time slots at 8AM, NOON, 4PM and 7PM.

HOW ARE YOU FUNDED?

The Town Council in conjunction with the Town Manager and a Cable Committee negotiated Gorham’s Franchise Agreement with Time Warner Cable. A portion of your cable bill, presently 5%, is collected and delivered back to the Town on a yearly basis. This money is used to fund equipment and staff for GOCAT TV2 & GGETV TV3. No tax dollars are used to provide GOCAT's services.
