Why wasn’t my trash picked up?
Trash will not be picked up on these 4 holidays: New Year’s Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Trash collection may also be suspended during a significant storm. Homes that are scheduled for trash pick up on holidays are picked up the next day. For example, if July 4 is on a Monday, and your normal trash collection day is Monday, your trash will be picked up on Tuesday. This pushes trash and recycling collection for the rest of the week back one day…Wednesday's routes will be collected on Thursday and Thursday's routes will be collected on Friday. The following week we will return to the normal collection schedule. Please feel free to call the Solid Waste and Recycling hotline at 892-3649 to hear about any schedule changes that have been made.

What happens if my mailbox is damaged?
Public Works drivers make every attempt to avoid damages to mailboxes. Generally speaking, the Town is not responsible for any type of damage to any item, including mailboxes, located in the Town’s right of way. The right of way area on most town roads extends 6 to 10 feet beyond the edge of pavement. For tips on mailboxes please visit our mailbox suggestion page click here.
To report a mailbox issue please contact Public Works at 892-9062 or visit our Report a Problem to Public Works page by clicking here.
How do I get a recycling bin?
A tote, milk crate, or plastic container can be used as a recycling bin. New residents may purchase a plastic recycling bin at Public Works for $4.50. Town of Gorrham residents can purchase plastic bins for $9.00 at the Gorham Public Works Department on Huston Road. Some residents may want to use more than one container, and we encourage you to go to purchase additional containers as needed, either at your local store or the Public Works Department.
All recyclables can go into one bin.
As of May 7, 2007, there is no need to sort or separate recyclables by type. Simply combine all glass, metal, paper, cardboard, and plastics into one recycling container and place it at curbside on your trash pick-up day.
