On the back of the traffic ticket are instructions for contesting the ticket. You must check off the box indicating that you want to contest the ticket and mail the ticket to the Violations Bureau at the address listed on the ticket. You have 20 days from the day you got the ticket to do this. If you contest the ticket, you will receive a court date by mail from the Violations Bureau. The notice will be sent to you at the address on the ticket, so please make sure that the address on the ticket is correct. The Violations Bureau will not research correct addresses or P.O. Boxes.

What should I do if I have been involved in a Traffic Accident?
If you are involved in an accident, you should immediately report it to the police by calling 9-1-1 and remaining at the accident scene until the police arrive. If the police have not been called to the scene, you and the other driver must come to the police department (270 Main Street) to report the accident. Each driver should bring his/her driver’s license, registration, insurance card and the car he/she was operating at that time of the accident (if operable) to allow the officer taking the report to see the accident damage. Without the above information, the police department can not take a report. If you come to the police department to report an accident, you should expect to wait until an officer can be called in from the street to speak with you.

Accident reports are public records. In most cases, your insurance company will request a copy of the report.
