THE CODE ENFORCEMENT DEPARTMENT
Code Enforcement is the source for various permits that, per Code, may be issued by the Code Enforcement Officer. Code Enforcement Officer provides interpretation of the Gorham Land Use and Development Code, the 2009 IRC, 2009 IBC, 2009 IECC and the State of Maine Life Safety Code NFPA101, (otherwise known as MUBEC) and reviews applications for appeals to be heard by the Gorham Board of Appeals. Any new structure, including decks, sheds, pools and alterations to existing structures will require building permits and possibly electrical and/or plumbing permits. The Code Enforcement staff makes every effort to provide information with clarity and professional assistance to the public
THE BOARD OF APPEALS
Variances, Miscellaneous Appeals and decisions of the Code Enforcement Officer may be appealed to the Gorham Board of Appeals. Applications for Appeal must be submitted to the Code Enforcement Office at least 10 working days before the meeting date. The meetings are held "As Needed" on the third (3rd) Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Municipal Center and are televised.
