Passport Information

PASSPORT APPLICATIONS CAN BE PROCESSED IN OUR OFFICE BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8:30 AM AND 3:30 PM

The Clerk's office has been a certified passport agent since September 2001.  We have passport applications, renewal forms and many other forms you may need to obtain or update your passport.  We will gladly accept your completed application and forward it to the U.S. Department of State for processing.  You now have a choice of getting the traditional passport book or the new passport card or both.  You may pick up an application from the Clerk's office or download one from the Internet and bring it to the Town Clerk's office for processing.  Please click the following link for additional information and to download an application, passport information & application.
Normal processing is within 6-8 weeks from the date of application.  If you have lost your valid passport, you must apply for a new one.  Passports are valid for 10 years for an adult (age 16 and over) and 5 years for a minor (age 15 and under).

Applicants need to appear in person for processing.  Applications for children under 16 need the permission of both parents and both parents should appear with the child to sign the application.  If one parent is unable to appear to sign the application, a notarized statement from the absent parent giving authorization for the child to apply for a passport is acceptable.

If you need your passport in a hurry you can have it expedited.  There is an expedite fee of an additional $60.00 and you should receive your passport in three weeks.

You may complete your applicatIon in advance but do not sign it prior to appearing before the acceptance agent.  Please bring in your original birth certificate (photocopies are not acceptable) or your most recent passport if issued to you while you were an adult.  You will need identification, this can be a valid drivers license.  You will also need 2 identical 2 x 2 full-face passport photos; these can be taken here at our office for a $10.00 fee per person.

You will also need two forms of payment.  First, a check or money order payable to The U.S. Department of State for the appropriate application fee.  Second a payment to the Town of Gorham that can be made with a check, cash or debit card.

You now have a choice of getting the traditional passport book or the new passport card or both.  For more information on the passport card, please visit www.travel.state.gov

Child (15 and under):  $60.00
Expedite fee:  $60.00 per person
Acceptance fee:  $25.00 per person

For children under 16 years of age:  The application requires signatures of both parents (do not sign prior to appearing before the acceptance agent) or a notarized statement giving authorization for the child to apply for a passport if one parent is not able to appear to submit the application.  Parents need to show the parental relationship.  This can be a birth certificate and identification.  If a parent has sole custody, they need to show either written consent from the absent parent or legal evidence of sole custody.
